JILL MORTIMER: Advocating Teesside as the main base for Tesla Motors

The past week has comprised meeting with the council’s senior officers team who looped me in on current issues which need to be addressed and how I can work together with the local authority to positively impact the lives of local people.

We discussed the need for additional funding for schools, social care and green infrastructure, as well as how projects such as the Elwick bypass will contribute to the Levelling Up of the North, and of course our great town.

My plans to deliver investment and jobs for Hartlepool are also underway - last week I co-wrote to Elon Musk, advocating Teesside as the prime location for his latest development of Tesla Motors.

This kind of development would not only provide employment to local people, but promotes Hartlepool as an up-and-coming location, while paying homage to the town’s infrastructural roots.

As Covid-19 restrictions began to be relaxed I was able to connect with local business owners in the hospitality industry.

I am aware of what Hartlepool’s independent shops and restaurants bring to the area - investment in locations such as Church Street to boost the local economy and bring people to Hartlepool’s centre is something I intend to lobby for in the coming months.

Last week concluded with two important visits - to Hartlepool FC and Teesside International Airport.

The football allowed me to embrace the spirit of the people I now represent, and what a fabulous result!

Ben Houchen has delivered on his promise to re-open the airport and I will work with Ben to support it continued growth and opportunities.

I will continue to work closely with local councillors, parliamentary representatives and of course local people to deliver the improvements that the people of Hartlepool desire.
