The firm’s chief operating officer, Matt Walker, says the company has made a flying start and is now in a position to bring apprentices on board six months earlier than originally planned.

Four apprentices are already learning the ropes in the business and NUS is now set to take on another six young people.

Mr Walker said: “Our targets are well above what we set out in our original business plan, and as a direct result of that we are in a position where we need to bring in new staff.

“We originally said we would bring in apprentices in January next year, but we’re well ahead of that now.

"To keep growing as we are, we need extra staff and apprentices are a win-win situation for all of us.

“I have been in this industry for more than seven years having initially started off as an apprentice. And I know this is a genuine opportunity to get a foot on the career ladder and quickly move upwards.

“We already have four apprentices within the business, and the growth we have enjoyed means there is now an opportunity for us to bring in another six.

“Apprenticeships are a valuable asset to not only the business but the town too as it gives young people leaving education access straight into a working environment and earning while they learn.”

Mr Walker said the business has worked closely with Hartlepool Borough Council in offering the apprenticeships and said the local authority’s help has been invaluable.

Northern Utility Solutions says it uses the latest technologies to save businesses time and money and lower their electric, gas and water bills.
