Wellfield School prides itself on being a happy, caring learning environment, and an exciting centre for learning for in the community, which it achieved with another outstanding year of GCSE results in 2021. Students really put in the effort, despite the extreme challenges that Covid presented, making Wellfield one of the highest achieving schools in Durham.

For example, students achieved a record number of grade 9s at GCSE, with achievement in English and Maths once again well above the county average, and above national average, too. Indeed, most subject areas have again achieved well above national expectations, and pupil progress over the last five academic years has been well above the national average.

After this challenging year, GCSE results day corresponded with the Year 11 leavers’ Prom at Hardwick Hall on Thursday, 12 August.

The theme was “A Night at the Movies”, and despite leaving school in May, the Prom committee worked through remote Teams meetings to plan a great celebration. The evening was extra special, with the additions of a photo booth, a superb magician, culminating with a wonderful firework display. Students and staff agreed that the Prom was a wonderful evening.

“It was lovely to see all of our students really enjoying themselves with friends and teachers,” said headteacher Linda Rodham. “After a wonderful meal and speeches, the students danced the night away.”
