Further classes at Hartlepool primary school ordered to self-isolate after positive Covid-19 test result

A Hartlepool primary school has told a number of classes to self-isolate following a further positive Covid-19 test result.

Children and staff members in six classes at Clavering Primary, in Clavering Road, have been told they must take the measures following the confirmation of a new Covid-19 test result.

The school made an announcement on Sunday, September 20, via the school Twitter account which asked two classes in Nursery, two classes in Reception and two classes in Year 4 to self-isolate – along with staff based in those classes – until October 5.

It comes as pupils in one class at the school continue to self-isolate for 14 days, until September 28, after the school confirmed on Monday, September 14 that one pupil had the virus.

A message on the school Twitter account read: “We have been alerted to new Covid-19 test results and children and staff members based in Nursery (Mr Savage’s morning class and afternoon class ) Reception (Mrs Corr’s class and Mrs Ord’s class) and Year 4 (Miss Sunley’s and Miss Williamson’s class) will have to self isolate.

“This has been agreed in line with Public Health and Government guidance.

“Children and staff in Nursery, Reception and Year 4 will return to school on Monday, October 5.

"Children currently self-isolating in Mrs Thebe’s class are due to return on Monday, September 28.

“All other pupils should come to school as normal tomorrow.”

Headteacher Helen O’Brien spoke of her pride in how the school’s pupils and staff have managed the return to school.

She said: “Pupils have settled extremely well since returning to school and have shown great resilience, positive attitudes and determination. They have been enthusiastic and have responded very well to the changes made to the school day, and to remote learning.

“We have robust systems in place to help prevent the spread of the virus, which has reassured pupils and staff, resulting in a calm and purposeful environment.

“Staff have taken everything in their stride and have gone ‘above and beyond’ what is expected of them.

Parents continue to be supportive and we are grateful for the trust that they have placed in us with their children, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
