Hartlepool secondary school hosts immersive Armed Forces Day
Students at Hartlepool’s High Tunstall College of Science got a taste of what Army life is all about with a day of hands-on activities.
The secondary school held its first Armed Forces Day, giving pupils the opportunity to challenge themselves through a range of exciting activities designed to build resilience, determination, teamwork, and leadership skills.
Throughout the day, students worked alongside members of the Armed Forces, taking part in practical challenges and engaging lessons that enhanced their geography knowledge and inspired them to get involved in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award.
Youngsters worked up a sweat in the gym, joining in activities on the school field, and also got to try on various uniforms, and safely handle weapons under close supervision.

Headteacher Mark Tilling said: “As part of our wider careers experiences we wanted our students to have access to the armed forces, and understanding what being in the Army would mean was just one of these experiences.
“We were lucky enough for the Army to agree to host an immersive day at High Tunstall which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
“The lessons and experiences were amazing and we look forward to developing the partnership further in the years ahead.”
The school also received fantastic feedback from the Army which said: “All of the teams that attended commented on how fantastic the students were throughout the day.
“They are a real credit to the school and were exemplary from start to finish. We hope we can build on this in the future and make the events even bigger and better."
