Just like the rest of the country, Flakefleet Primary School in Fleetwood faces closure from today in the midst of the Coronavirus threat.

It is unsure when the UK’s schoolchildren will return to the classroom but Hartlepool-born head teacher Dave McPartlin made sure his Flakefleet students had the perfect send-off.

He told them they could have a non-uniform day on the last day, and they responded with a mass singalong to Queen’s hit Don’t Stop Me Now.

Dave said: “We are trying to keep the spirits up which is what we need to do for our children.

“Health and safety is out the window at the moment. Let’s just cheer all our kids up and do what we can.”

The inspiring video of the children singing starts in one classroom, but soon other classes are joining in with an incredibly uplifting performance.

And many people will recognise it – because it is the song that the children of the school sang in the first round of their incredible run in Britain’s Got Talent last year.

The energetic choir, conducted and supported by Dave, wowed audiences up and down the country with their performance of Don't Stop Me Now by Queen in their first outing

BGT judge David Walliams, who gave the act his golden buzzer in the auditions, told Dave he was a "great teacher" and praised his work with the youngsters, who put their all into the number.

Eventually, the choir reached the grand final of Britain’s Got Talent.

But the competition and its £250,000 prize plus a spot on the bill at this year's Royal Variety Show was won by bookies' favourite Colin Thackery, 89, the singing Chelsea Pensioner.

But once again Dave, whose parents, brother and grandmother all still live in Hartlepool, and the children received great comments from the judges.
