Almost eight months after England was first locked down in an attempt to slow the spread of coronavirus, non-essential shops, restaurants and leisure facilities have been told to close their doors again.

Thursday, November 5, marks the first day of the four-week Lockdown 2 which will run until Wednesday, December 2.

Residents have been told they must stay at home other than for specific reasons including essential shopping, exercise and travel to work, where a person cannot work from home.

The NHS has been moved to its highest state of alert as hospitals battle to manage the rising numbers of Covid-19 patients needing care.
