27,000 in Hartlepool have had two virus jabs

More than a third of people in Hartlepool have now received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine, new figures reveal.

NHS data shows 27,026 people had received both jabs by May 16 – 36% of those aged over 16.

Of those, 23,635 were aged 40 and over – 49% of the age group – and 3,391 people aged between 16 and 39 have also received both doses.

Across Hartlepool 69% of those aged over 16 have received their first jab.

The NHS vaccine data also reveals variation in coverage between different areas for residents who have received at least one dose.

The areas with the highest coverage are The Fens, Elwick and Hart, with 82.2% of people aged 16 and over given their first dose.

This is followed by Wooler Road with 78.5% and Seaton Carew on 77.3%.

The areas with the lowest coverage are Harbour and Victoria (54%), Old Town and Grange (57.4%) and Foggy Furze (60%).

In England, 17.1 million people had received a second dose of the jab by May 16 – 38% of the population aged over 16 and over.

That includes 15.1 million people aged 40 and over – 53% of the age group.

In total, 30.4 million people had received at least one dose of a vaccine by the same date, covering 67% of people over 16.

The figures show 827 out of 966 eligible care home staff in Hartlepool - including agency workers - had received a first dose by May 16 – meaning 14% have not had a jab.
