Almost two fifths of people get jab in Hartlepool

Nearly two fifths of people in Hartlepool have received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, new figures reveal.

NHS data shows 32,552 people had received a vaccine jab by March 7 ­– equating to 43% of those aged 16 and over, according to the latest population estimates from the Office for National Statistics.

Of those vaccinated, 20,057 were aged 60 or over – 83% of the age group.

It means 12,495 people aged between 16 and 59 have received a first dose of the vaccine.

The data also reveals variation in coverage between different areas across the area.

Areas with the highest coverage are The Fens, Elwick & Hart, with 51.6% of people aged 16 and over given their first dose, Wooler Road (49.4%) and Seaton Carew (48.7%)

Areas with the lowest coverage are Harbour & Victoria (31.7%), Old Town & Grange (35.4%) and Foggy Furze (35.7%)

The Government has pledged to offer vaccinations to everyone aged over 50 by the end of April.
