Growing number of events cancelled and leisure venue closures in Hartlepool due to coronavirus

A number of public events and venues have been cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.

This has had an effect in Hartlepool with several upcoming events being called off.

The town’s Nasir Mosque, in Brougham Terrace, was due to hold its annual Open Day on Sunday, March 22, and had invited hundreds of local people.

But it has now been cancelled following the latest official advice.

A children’s Easter party organised by the Bishop Cuthbert, Hartfields and Clavering Residents Association at Hartfields Retirement Village on Saturday, April 4, has been postponed.

Organisers say they plan to hold a community event when the situation has eased.

A fundraising night by Hartlepool’s Phoenix Variety Showgroup in aid of Dunkirk ship MV Coronia has also been cancelled until a later date.

It was due to take place at the Smallcrafts Club on Friday, March 20.

MV Coronia, which is berthed at Navigation Point, has also closed to visitors for the time being.

Its owners said on Facebook: “Coronia will be closed until it is safe so please everyone stay safe and well till we meet again let’s all show the Dunkirk spirit xxxx.”

Hartlepool’s Vue cinema is currently closed with a notice saying they hope to reopen soon.

Billingham Forum Theatre has has closed. It said in an email to customers: “In the short term we are cancelling all productions up to Easter and will give further updates as we approach that period.

“We will endeavour to re-schedule as many of our affected shows as soon as possible”.

However, next weekend’s March of the Mods music event on March 27 and 28 is currently due to go ahead but organisers say they will review the situation daily and keep people updated.
