Hartlepool care home has the write idea for tackling loneliness among residents during lockdown

Charlotte Grange in Flaxton Street, which like homes up and down the country is on lockdown, has set up a pen pals scheme.
An appeal has gone out on social media for kind-hearted strangers to pen a letter to the home’s residents as their loved ones are currently unable to visit due to the ongoing coronavirus situation.

Hide AdCharlotte Grange’s activities coordinator Kirsty McMullen, created the scheme and has already had a great response.
So far, she has received over 30 responses from the local community with many parents stating that their children would absolutely love to help.
And it’s not just letters the home have received – one special delivery included a batch of freshly baked scones.
Wendy Nicholson, service manager at Charlotte Grange Care Home, said: “We know that letters can bring a real joy to people who are missing seeing their loved ones due to current situation with coronavirus.

Hide Ad“We’re already seeing some lovely friendships being created and it’s absolutely heart-warming to see the community pulling together during these times.”
Charlotte Grange is part of the national social care charity Community Integrated Care.
