Hartlepool gets ready to join in with a rousing round of applause for frontline workers

Hundreds of Hartlepool people are ready to show their appreciation for the frontline heroes – by giving them a rousing round of applause.

The country will come together at 8pm tomorrow to clap those who are fighting to keep Britain going through the Coronavirus.

The Clap For Our Carers campaign is gathering pace all over the country..

The message circulating on social media asks people to ‘either stand on doorsteps, or open a window and clap and cheer as loudly as you can for all the frontline workers - NHS staff, carers, food and medicine delivery drivers, shop workers and anyone else on the frontline, risking their own lives to make yours better’.”

Nationally, the campaign had already received more than 500,000 likes on Facebook on Wednesday lunchtime with the amazing people of Hartlepool among those to get involved.

Christine Fewster, chief executive of the Hartlepool Carers group, said: “We are all experiencing challenges at present and as always our Hartlepool community continue to come together to help one another.

“We have many people working on the frontline, risking their lives including many unpaid carers.

“Without their dedication, love and support many vulnerable people would not receive the essential support needed.

“Clap for Carers is a fantastic campaign to thank each and every individual supporting our community, I hope everyone gets behind the campaign and claps for our carers on Thursday at 8pm.”

Micky Day, the founder of Miles for Men which for years has helped the sick and vulnerable in Hartlepool, backed the idea and said ‘totally agree’”

He also said volunteers have been delivering food to the community and to nurses at the University Hospital of North Tees.

“Today we are signing up to become a charity volunteering for the NHS.”

Micky also had his own personal thanks for all the people in Hartlepool who were trying to help others in getting through the virus.

“Personally, this town has been amazing working together getting it done amongst the community and the vulnerable.

“They are all are a credit to this town.”

He also revealed plans for a big event to celebrate the work of the heroes once the threat of the virus in Hartlepool is over.

“We are hoping to get a music event over the marina when this is all done,” said Micky.

People across the UK can clap from their gardens, front doors, and balconies to show their support at 8pm on Thursday, March 26.
