Gina Atkinson, who works at the University Hospital of North Tees in Stockton, has so far collected around 50 Cadbury Creme Eggs which will be hidden for hospital staff to find on Easter Sunday, April 12.

The Hartlepool mum-of-three plans to stash the treats in the hospital’s communal areas – like corridors and lifts – so her colleagues can take part during their breaks for a bit of light relief.

It’s hoped that the activity will help lift the spirits of staff during the long hours and emotional difficulties of the coronavirus pandemic.

Gina, who works as a patient process facilitator at the hospital’s emergency assessment unit, said it’s been “heartbreaking” to see the impact the crisis is having on NHS staff.

She told the Mail: “If we can just give them a little bit of a smile, at least we’ve given them something.”

Gina, 45, plans to don her bunny outfit at the hospital on Sunday to lead the hunt for the treats, with the packets and boxes sanitised before being brought inside.
