The nursery and preschool of Brougham Primary School in Hartlepool will now be closed for a fortnight – until Monday, September 21 – following a confirmed case of coronavirus there.

In a lengthy statement on Twitter on Sunday, September 6, the school, on Brougham Terrace, confirmed that the affected person displayed no symptoms but had taken a test due to having close contact with another confirmed case of Covid-19, which is not at the school.

Headteacher Mrs Greenan said in the statement: “As soon as I was notified, I immediately contacted the Public Health Team as per the government guidance, and following a joint investigation, they have given me advice regarding the next steps.

"All staff in the nursery/preschool setting must self isolate for 14 days. Therefore, nursery and preschool will be closed to all pupils for the next 14 days.

"Please note although reception staff and pupils do not need to self isolate, we are closing reception so that a deep clean of the Early Years can be completed tomorrow (Monday, September 7).”

The statement added that no other area of the school was affected, due to the nursery and preschool being in its own “bubble” group.

Years 1-6 will return to class as planned on Monday.
