Health secretary Matt Hancock visits University Hospital of North Tees

Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock visited the University Hospital of North Tees as part of a tour around the North East.

Hospital staff spoke with Mr Hancock about their achievements, innovations and aspirations for improved facilities at the site.

The Secretary of State was then taken on a patient journey from a ward to the trust endoscopy department to help him understand the challenges an ageing estate brings.

He met with colleagues in the hospital’s Clinical Sterile Services Team who spoke about the team’s reusable gowns. Pictures show the health secretary trying on the gowns while wearing a mask with the message ‘hands, face, space’.

Mr Hancock then visited the accident and emergency department where staff spoke of their aspirations for an estate as ambitious as the workforce.

The visit was part of a small tour around areas in the North East on Monday, September 14.
