The sight loss charity British Wireless has revealed the new service, which it says enables them to continue to support the blind in Hartlepool – despite the pressures of the coronavirus pandemic.
BWBF works to provide audio equipment, including radios and CD players, which have been specially designed to make it simpler for someone living with sight loss to use.

The new service allows blind residents in Hartlepool receive their equipment via a doorstep delivery with further telephone support to help install it,
Sophie Wheldon, Regional Development Manager, said: “Our recipients are already some of the most socially isolated people in the country.
“The Covid-19 crisis has only made this much worse for many.

One of the recipients, Julie, added: “Having this radio means I can read my books and listen to music, which is a comfort.
“The radio is a respite from coronavirus. It gets overpowering when you’re by yourself and can’t talk to anyone.”
