River Island, Clarks and New Look among coronavirus closures at Hartlepool's Middleton Grange shopping centre

A number of shops in Middleton Grange shopping centre in Hartlepool have closed or reduced their hours due to coronavirus.

Centre bosses are urging visitors to check with individual retailers before visiting.

Stores that have closed until further notice due to the situation are River Island, TJ Hughes, Clarks, Pandora jewellers, New Look, and Alice House Hospice.

The British Heart Foundation is closed for the next two weeks.

A number of food outlets are providing takeaway only including Costa Coffee, Greggs and Subway.

The central dining area of McDonalds has also been closed, and all of the chain’s outlets will shut for the foreseeable future from 7pm tonight.

Other shops have introduced amended opening hours include Cash Generator (Monday to Friday 10am-4pm and closed Saturday and Sunday).

Middleton Grange said: “In line with Government guidance, Middleton Grange Shopping Centre remains open. However, the opening times of individual stores may vary.

“As we’re sure you’ll appreciate, this situation is ever evolving and the following list is expected to change.

“We recommend that all visitors check with the individual retailers before visiting.”

Last week, the centre, which is also home to a number of grocery stores including Iceland, Heron Foods, B&M and Home Bargains, said it had implemented an enhanced cleaning regime.

It says they will continue to follow advice from the local health authority, the Government and the World Health Organisation, adding: “Our retailers are working hard to help our local community, and we ask that our visitors shop sensitively and respectfully.”
