Staff wanted to work at coronavirus testing units in Hartlepool and rest of Teesside

Staff are urgently being sought to work at Covid-19 testing units in Hartlepool and elsewhere in Teesside.

The Department of Health and Social Care has begun advertising for managers to run the units, along with supervisors who will be employed on a three month full-time contract initially with an option to extend for another three months.

Mobile testing units are operating in Hartlepool and Redcar.

A permanent drive-through testing unit was recently created at the empty Sainsbury’s supermarket site in Middlehaven, Middlesbrough, with a location at Teesside Park having already been used.

An advertisement on the job site Indeed said one year’s experience of operational line management was required and a year’s experience working in the military preferred.

A mobile testing unit leader role will attract a pro-rata salary of £30,000 per annum and the supervisor role £25,000.

A security check and clean driving is required and applicants must not be shielding family members or other household members, or have any underlying health issues that make them more susceptible or at risk from Covid-19.

Other locations across the country where staff are being sought include Doncaster, Guildford, Birmingham, Slough, Stafford, Taunton, Telford, York, Nottingham, Oxford, Plymouth, Lee Valley, Lincoln, Chessington and Exeter.

Testing centres are operated in partnership with Serco and offer assisted and self-administered tests.

Those tested will receive their results within a few days.

Testing and tracing are key to the Government’s strategy for getting Britain back on track after the coronavirus outbreak.

With lockdown continuing to ease and Ministers eager to get the economy moving again, identifying cases and asking those who test positive and those they have been in contact with to self-isolate is vital to stemming the spread of the disease.
