The 3.5 mile event is on the way on Wednesday, September 9 from 11.30pm, just minutes before the clock ticks into World Suicide Prevention Day.

Martin Connelly is the chairman of Minds for Men which aims to raise awareness of mental health issues, and offers support.

He said: “Coming together can be the catalyst for people talking. September 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day and we want to tell people that even in their darkest hour, they will not be walking alone.

"This will be a steady stroll taking into account everyone’s pace. We shall have marshalls at the front, middle and the back of the walk and we are encouraging people to wear something hi-vis and possibly bring glow lights with them as well.”

People must register for the event at 11.30pm on the night and the voluntary registration fee is £3. Social distancing measures will be in place and face coverings are advised.

The walk will start at The Annexe in Wharton Terrace before heading to the Marina, the Headland and back.

Founder Micky Day described it at the time as ‘support during a time when there has been a rise in mental health issues over the last 18 months’.

The Annexe is one of the groups already working alongside Minds For Men on the new initiative. Also on board with Minds for Men is the mental health support group Stags.

Martin added: “This is our launch event and it is confirmation of our unity. The walk will be an annual occasion and I would like to think we hold it on each
