It was the year we watched HMS Warrior’s transformation into its former majesty, a year before she left for Portsmouth.

And it was the year we watched stock car racing, jazz bands and plenty more besides.

We are talking about 1986. The world watched Top Gun on the big screen and London’s Burning on the small screen.
