The Duke of Edinburgh was a hugely popular figure in the area and we look back on the times he brought smiles to the people of Hartlepool and East Durham on his Royal visits.
He was a regular visitor to places such as the Hartlepool’s Maritime Experience and to Easington Colliery. He will be fondly remembered for his time as patron of the HMS Trincomalee Trust.
Here are some reminders of his time in the area.
