But here is Brian Clough in 1967 at a testimonial match for club hero Ambrose Fogarty. Can you tell us if he played in the game?
What a line-up it was with Tony Parry, Tony Bircumshaw, Amby Fogarty, and Ernie Phythian also in the picture.
That Pools team took on a Charlie Hurley 11 and won 6-3. Why not re-live the memories of that day and lots of others thanks to these photos which come to us courtesy of the Hartlepool Museum Service and Hartlepool Library Service.
Take a look and then get in touch with your own Pools memories.
1. Cloughie at the testimonial
Irish international Ambrose Fogarty made 138 appearances and was awarded a testimonial on March 2, 1967. Hartlepools, including manager Brian Clough, played Charlie Hurley's 11. There was a crowd of over 7000 and also a dance in his honour. Cloughie is pictured fourth left. Photo: Hartlepool Museums Service. Photo: Hartlepool Museums Service
