Actress Samia Ghadie, hairdresser Maria Connor in Coronation Street, delighted nine year-old cerebral palsy sufferer Alfie Smith when she switched on the lights.
The switch-on takes place at 6.30pm in Church Square, with the whole event lasting between 4pm and 7pm.
It has not yet been revealed who will have the honour of lighting up the town. But here are some of the stars who have flicked the switch in the past.
