Meet the young Hartlepool footballers who have done their bit for charity - with some aged under seven!

Meet the young footballers who became junior runners to support a Hartlepool charity in the lockdown.

Members of Hartlepool St Francis FC were sponsored to run round the club’s pitch to raise money for Miles for Men.

And even though some of them are under seven years old, they still managed to clock up between two and three kilometres each.

The St Francis chairman Peter Rooney said: “There were eight members of the under-7s team who did four laps of our field.

“Some of the kids have raised £200 each and I think we have raised at least £1,000 from the one team, and other teams have done fundraising as well.”

Members of the under-7s, under-8s,under-9s, under-9s girls, and under 12s girls have all contributed and Peter added: "We have always supported Miles for Men and when the charity could not hold its annual 5k run, we thought we would do something ourselves.

"I run the under-7s team but a few of the teams have done something for Miles for Men and they have always supported us as well.”

Peter said its members take part in the annual Miles for Men run each year and felt they wanted to help the charity after the cancellation of the run which was due to be held at Seaton Carew in the summer.
