An information scheme called Talking Tuesdays has been unveiled by Hartlepool Carers and organisers have described it as essential advice during challenging times.

The advice and guidance service will be a weekly update aimed at everyone who needs it, not just Hartlepool’s huge army of more than 12,000 carers.

There will be assistance on how to keep safe, making the most of your finances and cancer awareness. Mental health support, volunteering and dementia awareness is also among the areas covered.

Group chief executive Christine Fewster said: "We recognise it is essential that families in Hartlepool are aware of services that are available throughout this challenging time.

“We will be working with many partners across the town to provide a weekly update for our whole community (not just carers).”

“Every Tuesday at 11am, anyone can tune into our YouTube channel to find out information around local services.”

Since then, the group has shown amazing support for townspeople.

Its support in recent months has included;

- The Box Clever scheme which involved free boxes of food which only registered carers could apply for.

- A free scheme called the ‘Carers Cycle and Connect’ project where people could loan bikes.

- The Spread A Little Sunshine scheme which saw packs containing a herb garden and sunflowers, art and craft materials, sensory materials, games such as playing cards and dominoes, help with baking, and nail and foot care all going to care homes.

- The ‘Care for a Cuppa’ session which is a virtual weekly get together every Wednesday at 10am, available by visiting the Hartlepool Carers Facebook page.

- There is also a service offering advice over the phone and the Carers has a buddy system. People can also access the group on (01429) 283095.

Christine explained more about the latest support through the Talking Tuesdays initiative. She said it also included ‘useful information regarding services such as blue badge applications, support with council tax, bus passes and other universal services.

She said: “We do have lots available across the town within the Voluntary, Community Sector and Public Services, but we are aware many people may not know what’s out there.

“Usually we would hold a number of community events across the year but this has not been possible. We feel it is vital to share information to support our community as we move through this challenging time.

“We are also keen to hear what information our community would like to know more about, so if anyone has any suggestions please get in touch with us on 01429 283095.”
