Families in Hartlepool who are entitled to free home-to-school transport are being urged to provide the information to ensure they are eligible for the help during the next school year.

Hartlepool Borough Council chiefs are reminding families to complete and return an important form which allows the free transport to be provided to those who need it.

Families who are eligible for this support on the grounds of low income are required to renew their entitlement each year by completing and returning an application form.

The form, with an accompanying letter, was posted to all eligible families of primary and secondary pupils by Hartlepool Borough Council’s Passenger Transport Services Team on 3 April with a return deadline of 8 May.

However to date a substantial number of the forms have not been returned, according to council chiefs.

Jayne Brown, council passenger transport team leader, said anyone who has not returned the form needs to do so by the end of the month at the latest.

She said: “Possibly due to the impact of the coronavirus outbreak, many families have not yet replied to us but it’s vital that they do so to ensure that they remain entitled for the new school year.

“We’d be grateful if they would please complete and return their forms to us as soon as possible and certainly by the end of this month.”
