Run Away Reindeer 5k event launched to help raise money for Hartlepool Carers

Walkers, joggers and cyclists have been urged to complete a 5k route of their own choosing to help Hartlepool’s army of carers this Christmas.
The new challenge is called the Run Away Reindeer event and it costs £7.50 per adult, £5 per child or £20 for a family of four to enter.

Hide AdOnce they have signed up, people are being urged to wear reindeer antlers as they run, walk or cycle round a 5k route that they choose themselves.
Chief executive Christine Fewster said all money raised would help to supports carers and their families this Christmas.
She added: “We are encouraging our community to get behind our ‘Run away Reindeer’ charity event .
"We are really excited to launch a virtual event to raise funds for families across Hartlepool this Christmas. Everyone can get involved, you can run, walk, cycle the 5k and also do it over a number of days, log your miles and you will receive a medal on completion.

Hide Ad“We know families across our town are finding things difficult this year, with lockdown, redundancies and people leaving work to look after loved ones.
"Every penny raised will be put back out into Hartlepool to ensure families have essential items and festivities over the Christmas period.
“We are encouraging people to sign up by calling us on 01429 283095. Once signed up, you decide when and where you complete your 5K, record using a fit-bit or tracker device, send us your photos and we will be delighted to present you with your medal.”
Christine added: “If any local organisations can offer any support over the festive period such as donating presents, food or other essential gifts we would be delighted to work with you.”

Hide AdHartlepool Carers is an independent charity which supports people looking after loved ones with long term illnesses, disabilities, mental health needs and substance misuse.
The carers offers support on issues such as finances, respite and social opportunities, wellbeing support and training and education.
l In the run-up to Christmas, the group also offers virtual visits from Santa, bingo, Christmas crafts and festive afternoon teas.
