It marks Barratt’s first housing scheme in Hartlepool since the company began in 1958.

The developer says it will result in over £3.4m in developer contributions to the local area with over £2 million to improve roads, over £1 million on recreational facilities and over £600,000 to support education.

Carl Sobolewski, managing director at Barratt Developments North East, said: “We’re thrilled to be providing much-needed housing for residents across the Hartlepool area for the very first time in the history of Barratt Developments.

"The safety of our employees, subcontractors and customers is our main priority, so every precaution has been taken to ensure this.

"The steps that we have put in place comply with social distancing measures and are designed to minimise any risk to the health of our workforce and valued customers, and we look forward to welcoming customers and making a positive impact within the local area.”

The development will be made up of a mix of two, three and four bedroom homes which Barratt hope will attract first time buyers and growing families.

They start from £161,995. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic all visits to the site are strictly by appointment only.

Virtual appointments are also being offered.

Barratt adds a large proportion of funds will be spent to protect local wildlife while bat boxes will be installed on the new development for an alternative space for nesting.

An area of 3.3 hectares will also be dedicated as Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace (SANG) to support walking routes, open spaces and playgrounds.

Fast fibre broadband is also a selling point as more people work from home.

Barratt is offering all NHS employees a 5% deposit contribution, up to £15,000, towards a new home until June 2021.
