It is expected to prove particularly popular this year, as it is happening on Guy Fawkes Night itself.

This year’s theme is ‘sci-fi’, with a display including music from Star Wars, War of the Worlds and X-Files.

There are set to be hours of entertainment for all the family.

It will begin at 4pm, when children will be able to enjoy a funfair which will be open near the paddling pool.

Music charity Red Dreams will provide entertainment from 5pm, with BBC Tees presenter Paul ‘Goffy’ Gough the compere for the evening, which is sponsored by Niramax Total Waste Solutions.

Red Dreams is a charity which works with and supports disadvantaged young people aged 11-19 through the creative arts and media.

The music will be provided a special entertainment area, at the rear of the clock tower.

The fireworks get under way at 6.30pm, with the countdown led by the Ceremonial Mayor of Hartlepool, Coun Rob Cook.

Coun Kevin Cranney, chair of the council’s Regeneration Services Committee, said he feels this event is one of the highlights of the calendar in the town.

He said: “The fireworks and music spectacular is one of the biggest events in the council’s entertainment calendar and it’s free.

“I would like to thank Niramax for once again sponsoring the event, which always attracts many people to Seaton Carew, giving a boost to local business.”

Visitors are also reminded not to try setting off their own fireworks on the beach, as it isn’t safe to do so.

For that reason, there will be no public access to the beach south of the Station Lane junction while the event is in progress on Saturday.

The Front at Seaton Carew will be closed to traffic from the junction with Elizabeth Way to the junction with Station Lane from 6.15pm to 7.15pm.

Vehicles parked along that stretch will not be permitted to move until the road has been re-opened.

Also, in order to ease congestion, vehicles will not be permitted to turn onto Station Lane from The Front after the event.
