The Great North Air Ambulance was called in to help after a call out which involved “sport and leisure”.

The charity's helicopter landed on parkland in Blackhall Colliery, close to Hardwick Street after it received a call to an incident at 4.20pm yesterday, Monday, May 24.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 4.05pm on Monday to a private address in the Blackhall Colliery area and dispatched air ambulance and paramedic crew.

"We took a patient to hospital by road.”
