Alert over potential bogus caller in Hartlepool

Police are appealing for help following a report of a possible bogus caller in Hartlepool.

Cleveland Police is following up a report of a man who is claimed to work for the police when he called at an address in Meadowgate Drive, off Hart Lane.

The incident occurred at 9am on Tuesday, November 28, when the man asked the home owner if they felt safe with the CCTV on the property.

The home owner questioned the man who stated he worked for the police and when asked to provide identification he provided a security door staff ID card.

The home owner asked the man, who was wearing civilian clothes, to leave.

He was seen attempting to approach other houses in the street.

Police said: "Officers would always advise vigilance with cold callers and would suggest asking for identification and even calling the company concerned if necessary to verify identification."
