A treasure trove of bygone memories has been unearthed from the Mail's archives - are you a face in the crowd?

“I was rooting around in an old box of snaps and came across a handful of plate glass negatives,” said archivist Susan Swinney.

“They date from the 1950s but, unfortunately, we have very little information about them. Perhaps readers can shed some light?”

Among the newly-discovered images are vintage shots of Hartlepool sea cadets, local nurses and a group of mystery musicians.

“There is also one showing crowds of people at Hartlepool’s railway station. Why they were there I have no idea,” said Susan.
