Facial fuzz is all the rage in Hartlepool this month thanks to a charity drive which is back for another year.

And the rallying call to people across town is: back the beard-growing initiative and support Hartlepool & District Hospice.

Fuzzy February is a month of sponsored beard growing in aid of the local charity, and was introduced in 2014 by long-term supporter and fundraiser Rob Hoskins of RK Consultancy.

It already has the support of TMD Friction for the third consecutive year.

And since 2014, the campaign has generated about £8,000, with half of that raised by the Hartlepool branch of TMD Friction, which is based on the Oakesway Trading Estate, off Winterbottom Avenue.

TMD, who are patrons of the hospice, have taken part in both of the previous Fuzzy February months, and are set to join in the bearded fun in this year’s event.

Barbara Lester, HR manager at TMD, who recruited the team to take part, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting the wonderful work of the hospice through taking part in Fuzzy February for the third consecutive year.

“Our team here at TMD enjoy taking part in the event and are hoping to recreate the success of the first two years.”

Greg Hildreth, a fundraiser at the hospice, said: “TMD supports the hospice in a number of ways and the staff are very generous, supportive and warm to our cause.

“They have played a major role in this particular fundraising initiative, and I’m delighted that they have signed up to take part again this year.

“All the money raised will be used to fund the specialist care services we provide free of charge to our patients and their families.

“I’d like to thank everyone at TMD on behalf of the hospice for their ongoing support.”

It is free to take part in Fuzzy February and men of all ages are encouraged to join in and grow their beards to fund hospice care.
