Bedlington Terrier Rosie gets a helping hand from Hartlepool lifeboat crew

The one-year-old pet was stranded on rocks near the Heugh Battery at the Headland today, Thursday, December 3.

The inshore lifeboat 'Solihull' and volunteer crew launched at 1.41pm following a request by Humber Coastguard.

Helm Matt Blanchard said: “Once we arrived at the scene, crewmembers Jordan Craddy and Jake Oates went into the water and clambered onto the rocks to recover the dog, assisted by the local Coastguard team who lowered an animal rescue bag to place the dog in'.

Volunteer crewmember Jordan Craddy said: “The dog was very nervous and it took me about 10 minutes to gain its confidence before it would let me near it to pick it up and place it into the Coastguard's bag.

"I believe the dog was called Rosie and has since been reunited with its owner.”

The lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service by 2.25pm.
