Hartlepool Gymnastics Club needs the funds following a series of setbacks when buying the building at 136 Lynn Street South to create a permanent home for its athletes.

Head coach Shelley Walton said: “I started the club ten years ago and this is our third facility.

“But now we have bought it, the building has become our permanent home.

“Unfortunately during the process of buying the building we were faced with a series of delays with the bank which meant that we missed the deadlines to apply for the sports grants that would have covered the cost of the sponge pit.
“We have 450 kids at the gym who are now without the pit, which would have allowed us to take on those with special needs and also help the kids who train to a high level.”

Now the club is hoping members of the public will donate to their cause and is also asking local businesses to get on board and sponsor the club to raise the funds.

Shelley continued: “We are open six days a week and cater for those aged nine months to adults.

“We host a lot of regional competitions and such events facilities cost quite a bit of money.
“We are wanting to know if anyone is prepared to make a donation to help us.

“It could be a cash donation, or if any companies want to provide the building materials for the pit, we would be very grateful.

“In return if a sponsor wants something up on the wall to show they have donated, we are happy to do that - depending on the size of the donation.”
