Casualty taken to hospital after late night flat fire at Hartlepool supported housing scheme

One person was taken to hospital following a late night fire at a Hartlepool extra care scheme.

The incident happened at Bamburgh Court, at Clavering, shortly after 12am on Thursday, February 23.

A total of five fire appliances from Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Stockton and Thornaby attended.

They used four breathing apparatus, two hose reels, a positive pressure ventilation fan and thermal image camera to extinguish the fire.

Cleveland Fire Brigade reported the flat suffered 40% fire damage and 80% smoke damage.

The incident was declared over just after 2.10am.

One casualty was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Bamburgh Court, run by Thirteen, comprises around 70 apartments and bungalows aimed at people aged over 55 who need some support to live independently.

Care staff are on site at all times.
