Civic awards for making a difference to Hartlepool

Residents and organisations that have made a real difference to the town have been recognised.

Hartlepool Civic Society has held its 34th Awards presentation when trophies and certificates were presented to the winners.

Honorary Secretary Valerie Lister said: “The awards scheme gives us an opportunity to showcase what has been achieved during the year.

“This year there were fewer nominations but the quality and importance of the projects was high.”

Vice chair Pamela Thompson presented certificates including for listed building Park Lodge, which has been renovated by new occupants Adept Recruitment Agency.

Also recognised were wild flowers planted by the council at St Mary Magdelene Church Memorial Field; Greatham Community Centre; flowers bordering the pathway Three Gates Dalton Piercy; shop fronts at rear of H&M, and 92 Caledonian Road.

Heritage Champion Councillor Tricia Lawton presented the civic society’s Rose Bowl trophy to Greatham Community Centre.

Paul Wilson was the Skycrafts Pilot of the drone which did the filming for the Coast project video at the rail station and mural artist Suzie Devey

The Rose Bowl for smaller projects went to 92 Caledonian Road, while Park Lodge took the runner-up trophy.

Hartlepool Borough Council’s coast project mural and video at the railway station was awarded the trophy for Tourist Potential.

The evening also celebrated society committee member Dorothy Clark who received an MBE for her long voluntary service to the community of Greatham.
