Civic life to be celebrated at mayoral event in Hartlepool

Civic and community life will be celebrated at a special church service in Hartlepool this coming weekend.

The Mayor of Hartlepool’s Service takes place in the church of St John Vianney, which is in King Oswy Drive on Sunday at 9.30am, following which light refreshments will be served.

The hour-long event will be led by Father Nick Jennings – the Civic Chaplain and Parish Priest of St John Vianney.

The mayor of Hartlepool Councillor Rob Cook will be accompanied by his wife, the mayoress, Brenda.

Among those present will be civic dignitaries from neighbouring authorities, Aldermen of the town, family members and councillors.

There will be also be a number of readings at the service including one from Ben McMurdo, the mayor’s 9-year-old grandson.

Councillor Cook said: “This is an opportunity for local people to come together and celebrate civic life and the great town of Hartlepool.

“I would like to extend a very warm invitation to people of all ages to attend the service to celebrate the contribution that the community and the council make to the life of the town.”

Coun Cook added: “I would like to thank the Civic Chaplain Father Nick Jennings for leading the service.

“The church plays a big part in community life and I am very grateful to St John Vianney for hosting the service.”

Coun Cook was selected as mayor in May this year. He takes over the role from Coun Mary Fleet and continues to represent the De Bruce ward.

A procession will leave St John Vianney Primary School at 9.20am on Sunday and will arrive at the church for 9.30am.
