Jeff, who is Pools’ honorary president and face of Sky’s Soccer Saturday, will attempt to walk 10 marathons in as many days from Hartlepool United’s Victoria Park to Wembley to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.

Michael Evans, better known as cheeky monkey H’Angus, will join him for the leg between Coventry and Leicester on Sunday, March 27.

Thanks to First Class shoe repair, engraving and key cutting business, in Middleton Grange shopping centre, the 31-year-old should have a comfortable time.

Owner Bill Reid, a big Pools fan and supporter of Prostate Cancer, said: “I was talking to Michael and said ‘who’s going to get your kit?’ and he said he has to pay for it himself.

“So I said ‘why don’t I pay for your shoes?’ My daughter’s father-in-law had treatment for prostate cancer and we are all avid Hartlepool fans. So it is also to help bring prostate cancer out into the open.”

Nissan worker Michael, of Trimdon Station, picked out a new pair of trainers for the challenge.

Prostate cancer is also a cause close to his heart after his grandad Thomas Angus died of the disease.

Michael said: “I try to do as much as I can for the charity, and with Jeff Stelling being a Hartlepool fan I thought it would be good to get on board. I’m very grateful for Bill’s generous donation.”
