Sweet-toothed Hartlepool thief sentenced for stealing Twix bars and trying to use stolen bank card

A sweet-toothed thief has been sentenced for stealing chocolate from a Hartlepool convenience store.

Thomas Campbell, 42, pleaded guilty at Teesside Magistrates’ Court to stealing £19 worth of Twix bars from the One Stop shop, in Catcote Road, on August 30.

Prosecutor Michael Embleton told how Campbell took the chocolate biscuits and walked straight out of the store.

He also admitted a charge of fraud by false representation when he had earlier tried to use a stolen bank card in a shop on August 16.

The card was declined having been used several times by others. The crime was caught on the store’s CCTV, said Mr Embleton.

Neil Taylor, mitigating, said Campbell, of Eton Street, Hartlepool, had been given the card by an acquaintance to try to buy whisky.

Campbell was given a two-year community order in September for several other shop thefts.

A district judge gave him a two-year conditional discharge for the new offences and ordered Campbell to pay One Stop £19.50 compensation.
