Craig Hignett favourite to be new Hartlepool United boss

Craig Hignett has emerged as the early frontrunner to be the new Hartlepool United manager.

Ronnie Moore today parted company with the struggling League Two side after a poor run of form.

Hignett, who was Colin Cooper’s No 2 at Victoria Park in the 2013-14 season, is out of work after leaving Middlesbrough last year.

The former Boro midfielder left Pools in March 2014 to take up a role as Aitor Karanka’s assistant.

He is understood to have been approached in the past about a return to Victoria Park and was a contender for the manager’s job before Moore took over in December 2014.
