Hartlepool Borough Council says a course will complement plans to revamp the seafront which include proposals for a new outdoor leisure park, beach huts and improvements to the Grade II listed clock tower and bus station.

An area of land, next to the promenade on The Front, measuring 400-600 square metres, has been earmarked for the course.

Councillor Kevin Cranney, chair of the council’s Regeneration Services Committee, said: “The proposed new crazy golf course reflects our determination to press on with the regeneration of Seaton as quickly as possible.

“I’ve been to lots of seaside towns with crazy golf courses and they are always very popular with families.

“The planned course at Seaton will be in a great location overlooking the beach and sea and I’m sure it will be a big attraction.”

It is set to be adjacent to the leisure park which hinges on the outcome of a £600,000 bid to the Coastal Communities Fund. An announcement on whether the council has been successful is due by the end of March.

Other features include high-quality children’s play equipment and water jets while the promenade is also set to get new seating and communal space.

The council was forced to revise its plans for the area after the Government rejected a compulsory purchase order for The Longscar Centre which has stood empty for a number of years.

Any companies that are interested in building and running the crazy golf course should submit business plans via the Pro Contract procurement system no later than March 10.
