Crew towed to safety by Hartlepool RNLI after boat suffers breakdown while out at sea

A small boat was towed back to shore by a team of RNLI volunteers after its crew called for help when it broke down while out at sea.

The Hartlepool team was paged at 10.54am today, Wednesday, July 8, to assist three people on board a 3-metre vessel, with the alarm raised after it suffered mechanical failure as it was north of Steetley pier.

Hartlepool RNLI all-weather lifeboat Betty Huntbatch was launched at 11.10am and was alongside the casualty vessel a short time later.

It was then taken under tow to the Ferry Road lifeboat station to be transferred to a trailer on a nearby slipway.

The all-weather lifeboat was refuelled by the team and made ready for service by 12.30pm.
