200 Covid related calls made to Cleveland Police on New Years Eve
Cleveland Police force had around 200 Covid related contacts on December, 31 from local residents across Cleveland with concerns about covid-19 restrictions being broken.
It was a busy night for the control room and frontline teams who received over 1000 calls for service, which included 403 emergency 999 calls.

Hide AdOfficers on Covid patrols discovered a house party in Middlesbrough with over 20 people present – the organiser is due to go to court over the offence.
Police also spoke to a number of people to educate them on the restrictions and gave one warning.
Coronavirus laws mean that those found to be breaking Covid-19 rules can be charged hefty fines by police.
Offenders can be charged a fixed penalty notice of £200 for the first offence and this can be doubled up to a maximum of £6,400 for repeat offences – holding a meeting of more than 30 is the coronavirus offence with the biggest penalty attached with a huge bill of £10,000.

In a statement on Facebook the force said: “We know that the majority of people are doing all they can to abide by the new restrictions and understand the need to keep Covid from spreading.
