Appeal after woman attacked from behind by attempted handbag mugger in Hartlepool

A would-be robber tried to snatch a handbag from a woman walking alone in Hartlepool early in the morning.

Cleveland Police are investigating and appealing for information to the incident which happened at around 8.20am on Sunday, January 3, as the woman walked along Southburn Terrace.

The victim, who is aged in her fifties, was attacked from behind by a male who tried to steal her handbag at the junction with South Parade and Nottingham Walk.

The suspect made off empty handed along Nottingham Walk and Stockton Road.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dash cam footage from the area that could help.

They are asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101, quoting incident number 001249.
