Armed robber threatens taxi driver with knife in Hartlepool

Police are appealing for witnesses after a taxi driver was threatened with a knife on Wynyard Road in Hartlepool.

Police are calling for witnesses and drivers with dash cam footage following an attempted robbery at the rear of the shops on Wynyard Road on Friday, October, 30, between 1pm and 1.30pm.

Cleveland Police said a the man was sitting in the passenger seat of a taxi when he threatened the driver with a knife and demanded him to hand over cash.

The suspect is described as being a white male aged 18 to 19-years-old, 5 ft 6” tall with long curly dark hair and he was wearing black trousers, a black jumper and a black face mask.

The suspect ran in the direction of Catcote Road and the Goldmine pub following the incident.

No money was stolen and the driver remained uninjured.

Anyone with information or dash cam footage from the time/area of the attempted robbery is asked to contact police on 101 quoting 178251.
