Arrest made after police called to reports of man armed with knife in Hartlepool street near primary school

A man has been arrested on suspicion of affray following an incident in a Hartlepool street near a primary school.

Officers were called to Grosvenor Street, in Hartlepool, at 11.10am on Friday, January 24, to reports a man possibly in possession of a knife had been spotted.

A 34-year-old has remains in police custody following the incident near Lynnfield Primary School.

The school has confirmed it was not involved in the incident but pupils were kept indoors over lunch time as a precaution.

A spokesman for Cleveland Police said: “Police received a report of a man possibly in possession of a knife at 11:10am on Grosvenor St.

“Officers attended the scene and a 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray. He has been taken into police custody and enquiries are ongoing.”

A spokesman for Lynnfield Primary School said: “The incident did not involve or affect the school but as a precaution, upon becoming aware that there was some kind of disturbance and a police presence in the neighbourhood, we took the precaution of keeping the pupils indoors over lunch time.”
