Terry Atkin, 31, from Hartlepool, admitted attempting to take £126 of bottles from the Morrisons store in Whitburn Road, Seaburn, Sunderland, as part of a series of offences he committed over a two-day period in May.

As well as the booze theft bid on May 28, he has also pleaded guilty to stealing 12 packs of meat worth £80 from Marks & Spencer, also in Sunderland, just 24 hours later and to separate counts of wilfully obstructing Northumbria Police officers in the course of their duties on both dates.
