Car crashes into lamppost in Hartlepool street

Police say youths were lucky to escape unscathed after a car crashed into a lamppost in a Hartlepool street.

The incident took place on Wednesday, July 15, when a black Ford Ka collided with the lamppost outside an industrial building on Skerne Road.

Police say there were no signs of physical injury at the scene where the car was abandoned.

The vehicle was badly damaged and the lamp was dislodged from the top of the post and fallen directly onto the roof of the vehicle, with the potential to cause serious injury.

Witnesses say the youths were driving the car ‘as an object of entertainment’, according to police.

Hartlepool Neighbourhood Police Team said on its Facebook page: “Please could parents be vigilant and ask your children what they are doing whilst they are out on an evening with their friends.

“On this occassion the youths involved have been very lucky and no one was believed to be injured.”
