Children found without seat belts and vehicles seized as police carry out stop checks on major Hartlepool road

Three children were found travelling in a car without seat belts and other vehicles were seized in a stop check on a route in and out of Hartlepool.

Cleveland Police's Specials led the operation at Newton Bewley, on the A689 Stockton Road, with a total of 43 vehicles stopped.

The checks, on Saturday, August 22, resulted in:

Two vehicles being seized for being driven without insurance Two warning notices for driving in a careless manner 17 notices issued for vehicle defects, with the motorists to rectify the problems Eight fixed penalties issued for offences including incorrect number plates One for children not being properly secured One was issued for not having an MOT.

Specials Inspector Phill Brette said: “Road safety forms an integral part of policing.

"Whether it’s dealing with vehicles that are uninsured, have multiple defects, or vehicles being driven dangerously.

“Operations of this nature are also to designed to educate motorists about safer driving and to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy.”
